Rancho Vista Elementary, Neighborhood Participation School, herein referred to as “Rancho Vista” believes that all children benefit educationally, emotionally, and socially from the participation of their parents in their education. With this belief at the forefront, Rancho Vista’s staff and parent community endeavors to encompass the entire student body in a learning environment that encourages participation from all families.

Rancho Vista’s Participation Plan, augmented academic curriculum and “alternate” status has the following primary components:Parent participation is an integral part of the school fabric. Parents are required to spend eight (8) hours per month at the school or on projects for the school. “Parents” are defined herein as the parent(s), legal guardian(s) or designated extended family member(s).

Spanish is offered as part of the curriculum for grades kindergarten through fifth. All classes receive Spanish instruction a minimum of three (3) times per week.

Kindergarten enrollment is limited to 20 students per teacher. The class day in Kindergarten is from 8:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., with a nutrition break.

Slightly longer school days for grades first through fifth are held on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to allow for a 1:30 p.m. dismissal time on Monday. This revised bell schedule allows for structured teacher planning time.  A full class schedule can be found here.

The curriculum offered at Rancho Vista, with the exception of the Spanish program, is the same program used throughout the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District and adheres to the same California State Standards and Essential Learnings adopted by the Board of Education. Rancho Vista operates under the same guidelines and calendar as the remainder of the school district.
